Washington Park by Payce is located in Riverwood North on the 3.5 hectare site. The whole project consists of 11 apartments with total 780 units. The name of the project came from the history of the site, which was a World War II American Army Hospital.
Washington Park is already underpinned by a well-established road and public transport network connecting the area to major employment hubs, including the Sydney CBD. Other hubs such as Sydney Airport, Liverpool, Bankstown, Parramatta, Mascot, Green Square and the entire M5 growth corridor, including Hurstville, are all within 30 minutes by car. All employment centres are very easily accessible via the existing public transport network.
The newly renovated Riverwood Station is only 700m from Washington Park and within easy walking distance. From here you can catch the Airport and East Hills Line that connects you directly into the Sydney CBD. The train ride currently takes around 25 – 35 minutes from Riverwood to Central. These travel times will be reduced even further when the $2.1bn South West Rail Link project is completed in 2016. There is also the Bankstown line via Punchbowl station which is located 2.6km from Washington Park and is accessible via a direct bus route.
Washington Park has 11 parks within a one km radius, covering an impressive 260 acres. In keeping the connection to the surrounding area, the masterplan provides a carefully selected richness in texture, colour and seasonal variation including magnolias, jacarandas, flame trees, silky oaks and pear trees. Washington Park has been designed to blend harmoniously with the adjoining landscaped wetlands and around 190 trees and 14,000 plants will be planted throughout the extensive public areas.
Washington Park have provided new facilities including a Library, cafe, retail, community centre and senior citizens centre. The project brief was to establish a revitalised urban area where people want to live, which exudes a strong sense of place and belonging, and ensure appropriate social infrastructure to support the renewal and to build the capacity of disadvantaged members of the community, and arrest the risk of ongoing social deterioration (through learning, employment, recreation, community facilities and social programs). Leading to a higher proportion of families into the area.
